Franklin County deputy indicted

Deputy Charles Davis of the Franklin County Sheriff's Office has been indicted on 58 charges, including 32 counts of rape and 26 counts of gross sexual imposition, following his arrest by the U.S. Marshals Task Force. The investigation began in September 2023, leading to Davis being placed on administrative leave. Sheriff Dallas Baldwin emphasized the seriousness of the allegations and the commitment to transparency and accountability within the department. Many of the charges involve victims under the age of 13 and span offenses from March 2020 to October 2022. An internal investigation is ongoing, and Davis is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on August 26. The sheriff's office has refrained from commenting further on the case as it develops.
