A special CBI court in Kochi has dismissed discharge petitions from senior CPI(M) leaders P Jayarajan and former MLA T V Rajesh, who are charged with conspiracy in the 2012 murder of Muslim Students Federation activist Ariyil Shukoor. The court found sufficient evidence against both leaders, including witness testimonies and phone records linking them to the crime. Shukoor was killed on February 20, 2012, after a violent incident involving Youth League workers that targeted the convoy carrying Jayarajan and Rajesh. The prosecution argues that the conspiracy to murder Shukoor was plotted while the accused were hospitalized following the attack. Both leaders now face trial, and the case has drawn significant political attention due to its implications for the CPI(M) in Kerala. Shukoor's family, particularly his mother, has actively opposed the leaders' discharge, citing evidence of their involvement.
