Nintendo Switch 2 Launches With Limited Midnight Events

The Nintendo Switch 2 will launch on June 5, with midnight events now confirmed only in select locations, including Smyths Toys stores across the UK and select Best Buy and Nintendo stores in the US, while South Africa is no longer mentioned among launch event hosts. These events offer limited stock for preorders and walk-in customers, along with gameplay demos and giveaways for early attendees. The scale of midnight launches is much reduced compared to previous years, reflecting a shift toward digital downloads and fewer physical retail celebrations. Nintendo is also set to make its first Summer Game Fest appearance since 2022, fueling speculation about new Switch 2 game announcements. The Switch 2 introduces customizable Joy-Cons and support for up to 4K/60fps gaming, though it will not initially include variable refresh rate support for TVs.
