Swiss Court Sentences Hinduja Family Members to Prison for Exploiting Domestic Workers

A Swiss court sentenced four members of the wealthy Hinduja family—Prakash Hinduja, his wife Kamal, their son Ajay, and daughter-in-law Namrata—to prison terms ranging from four to 4½ years for exploiting domestic workers at their Geneva villa. The workers, mostly illiterate Indians, were underpaid, had their passports seized, and were forced to work long hours. The court dismissed human trafficking charges, ruling that the workers partially understood their employment terms. The Hindujas have announced plans to appeal the ruling.
