Spider-Verse Producers Plan Live-Action Archie Comics Movie

Universal Pictures is developing a live-action Archie Comics movie produced by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, known for their work on the Spider-Verse franchise, The Lego Movie, and 21 Jump Street. The screenplay will be written by acclaimed comic book writer Tom King, who has experience with projects like Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow and Green Lantern adaptations. The film aims to present a more grounded and family-friendly version of Archie, distinct from the darker and supernatural elements of the CW series Riverdale. Producers Emma Watts and Archie Comics CEO Jon Goldwater are also involved, with Universal executives Britt Hennemuth and Christine Sun overseeing the project. Archie Comics, which debuted in 1941, has been a cultural staple with numerous adaptations, including cartoons, live-action TV specials, and most recently the 2023 Bollywood film The Archies. Lord and Miller expressed excitement about bringing the iconic characters to a broad audience, emphasizing the story’s appeal to both longtime fans and new generations.
