Tancanhuitz Mayor Franco Shot Dead in Mexico

Jesus Eduardo Franco, the mayor of Tancanhuitz in San Luis Potosi, Mexico, was shot dead on Sunday along with three others, highlighting the ongoing violence against local officials linked to organized crime. The state prosecutor confirmed that the victims were found inside a vehicle, prompting calls for justice from Morena party president Rita Rodriguez. Franco, who had been in office for just three months, is the latest in a series of brutal attacks against politicians in Mexico, which has seen over 450,000 murders since the military began combating drug cartels in 2006. Notably, just last month, another mayor, Alejandro Arcos, was decapitated shortly after taking office in Guerrero state.
