Zheng Qinwen, the Australian Open runner-up and Olympic gold medalist, has announced her withdrawal from the upcoming United Cup mixed-teams tournament to focus on preparation for the 2025 Australian Open. The 22-year-old expressed a need for additional rest and training after a demanding 2024 season, where she played 68 matches, including reaching the Australian Open final and winning gold at the Paris Olympics. She stated her excitement for returning to Australia soon, despite missing the United Cup, which starts on December 27. With Zheng's absence, Gao Xinyu will step in as China's top-ranked female player at the tournament, while Zhang Zhizhen will lead the men's side. China's campaign begins against Brazil in Perth, Australia. The Australian Open is set to commence on January 12, 2025.
