Pikes Peak, Shelsley Walsh Host Major International Hill Climb Races

The Pikes Peak International Hill Climb, one of North America's oldest and most challenging auto races, is set for June 22 and continues to attract global competitors including seasoned racers like Fred Veitch and fourth-generation racer Loni Unser. Veitch, a Colorado Springs native, is competing in his final race and highlights the event's unique appeal and significant elevation change, climbing from around 12,500 feet to the summit at 14,110 feet. Loni Unser, representing the famed Unser racing family, is preparing for her fourth ascent, underscoring the race’s historic significance and demanding nature. Meanwhile, in the United Kingdom, the 120th British Hill Climb Championships at Shelsley Walsh drew over 200 drivers to compete on what is considered Europe's fastest and most spectacular hill climb, often referred to as the 'Monaco of hill climbing.' The Shelsley Walsh course, dating back to 1905, features a 329-foot rise over a 1,000-yard track and saw high-speed runs reaching up to 150 mph, with competitors from multiple generations participating. Porsche also showcased a prototype electric SUV at the event, highlighting the blend of tradition and innovation in hill climb motorsports.
