Washington Commanders Sign Kicker Matthew Wright Against Former Chiefs

The Washington Commanders signed kicker Matthew Wright and elevated him from the practice squad to start against his former team, the Kansas City Chiefs, after ruling out Matt Gay due to a back injury. Defensive tackle Sheldon Day was also elevated to provide depth as Daron Payne deals with a toe injury, while wide receiver Robbie Chosen was released from the practice squad. Wright has previous experience with the Chiefs, having successfully filled in for them in the 2022 and 2023 seasons, and also played briefly for Tennessee this season. On the Chiefs' side, left tackle Josh Simmons was ruled out due to a family situation, and guard Trey Smith was doubtful to play, affecting their offensive line. Running back Kareem Hunt was expected to play despite earlier injury concerns.
