Two Fatalities Rock UK Motorsport Events
Dai Roberts, a 39-year-old co-driver, died in a crash during the Jim Clark Rally near Duns in the Scottish Borders, with the event and its associated Reivers Rally subsequently canceled. The tragedy is compounded by the fact that Roberts' younger brother Gareth also died in a rally crash in 2012. In a separate incident, Julian Grimwade, a man in his 70s, was fatally injured during a Vintage Motorsport Festival race at Donington Park in Leicestershire. Motorsport UK and event organizers have launched investigations into both crashes and expressed condolences to the families and the motorsport community. The FIA also noted several fatal incidents across Europe on the same day. No other injuries were reported in the Scottish Borders crash, with the rally driver taken to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
