Mount Fuji Implements Crowd-Control Gate to Limit Climbers

A crowd-control gate has been installed halfway up Mount Fuji in preparation for the climbing season, aiming to address safety and overcrowding issues. The gate, part of new regulations, will restrict climbers who haven't booked an overnight stay, with a daily limit of 4,000 climbers and closure between 4 p.m. and 3 a.m. Climbers must choose between a day hike or overnight stay at huts, pay fees, and scan a QR code at the gate. The governor of Yamanashi expressed concerns over the risk of disasters due to overcrowding and aims to mitigate overtourism issues on the mountain.
