Executive Engineer Santosh Kumar of UP Jal Nigam (Rural) was allegedly beaten to death at his rented home in Sultanpur. His driver, Sandeep Vishwakarma, discovered the attack and identified Assistant Engineer Amit Kumar and an accomplice as the assailants. The police arrested Amit Kumar and his associate Pradeep after an encounter in which both suspects were injured. A possible motive for the murder is a chargesheet Santosh Kumar prepared against an agency involved in the Jal Jeevan Mission. Police have detained the driver for questioning to further investigate the motive, and the suspects are receiving medical treatment and are expected to be interrogated once stable.
