Philippines Approves Salary Increases for Government Workers
Government employees in the Philippines will begin receiving salary increases this year, following the approval of guidelines for the Salary Standardization Law (SSL) VI. Budget Secretary Amenah Pangandaman announced that the first tranche, averaging a 4.41% increase, will be implemented retroactively from January 1, 2024, with a total budget allocation of P36 billion from the Miscellaneous Personnel Benefits Fund (MPBF). This salary adjustment will affect approximately 84.33% of government workers across various salary grades. The salary increase will occur in four tranches, with subsequent adjustments planned for 2025, 2026, and 2027. Notably, the mid-year bonus will also be included in this first tranche. The aim of these adjustments is to make government salaries more competitive with the private sector and retain high-performing personnel.
