Four Dead, Six Injured in South Korea Bridge Collapse
A tragic bridge collapse occurred at a construction site in Anseong, South Korea, at approximately 9:49 am, resulting in at least four fatalities and six injuries. The incident involved five steel beams that collapsed while workers were installing a deck for the Seoul-Sejong expressway, with dashcam footage capturing the horrifying moment. Among the deceased are two Chinese nationals and two South Koreans, while five of the injured are reported to be in critical condition. In response, Acting President Choi Sang-mok ordered a mobilization of resources for rescue operations, which included over 150 personnel and helicopters. Hyundai Engineering, the main contractor, has apologized and is cooperating with authorities to investigate the cause of the collapse, echoing concerns about safety practices at construction sites. This incident adds to the alarming statistics of over 8,000 work-related deaths in South Korea between 2020 and 2023.
