Virginia, Maryland Renew Basketball Rivalry Series

Virginia and Maryland have announced a renewal of their historic men's basketball rivalry, scheduling a four-game home-and-home series starting in the 2025-26 season. The series will see Virginia host Maryland in 2025-26 and 2027-28, with Maryland hosting in 2026-27 and 2028-29. Both coaches, Tony Bennett and Kevin Willard, expressed excitement over rekindling the rivalry, which has a long history dating back to 1913, where Maryland leads the all-time series 108-76. The last matchup occurred in 2018 during the ACC-Big Ten Challenge, with Virginia winning eight of the last nine encounters. This series marks a significant step in reviving regional rivalries for both programs, which have been limited since Maryland's move to the Big Ten in 2014.
