Turkish, Saudi FMs Discuss Gaza Crisis, Bilateral Ties in Cairo, Riyadh
Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan is engaging in high-level talks with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi and Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty in Cairo to address Israel's recent plan to take control of Gaza City amid ongoing military operations. Fidan condemned Israel's actions as the biggest obstacle to a two-state solution and regional stability, emphasizing the need to end what Turkey describes as a genocide in Gaza and to ensure uninterrupted humanitarian aid to the enclave's 2 million civilians. The visit also focuses on strengthening bilateral ties between Turkey and Egypt, whose trade volume reached $8.8 billion in 2024 with goals to increase it further, alongside discussions about regional issues in North and East Africa. Concurrently, Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan has held multiple calls with global counterparts, including those from Egypt, Turkey, France, Germany, and the EU, strongly condemning Israel's decision to occupy Gaza City and calling for urgent international action to halt the war and end humanitarian suffering. Saudi Arabia warned that failure by the international community and the UN Security Council to act threatens regional and global security and risks grave consequences including genocide and forced displacement. Both Turkey and Saudi Arabia are actively urging the international community to intensify efforts to resolve the Gaza crisis peacefully and prevent further destabilization in the region.
