95-Year-Old Charged With Impaired Driving
A 95-year-old man, Francis Landry from West Nipissing, has been charged with impaired driving after his low-speed mobile scooter was found stationary in the middle of the road in Sturgeon Falls around 1 a.m. on August 30. Police responded to reports of a traffic hazard and subsequently arrested Landry for impaired operation due to alcohol. He has been released and is scheduled to appear in court on October 3. In Ontario, low-speed vehicles are subject to regulations including the need for a driver's license, insurance, and proper plates. The incident highlights ongoing concerns about impaired driving, regardless of the vehicle type. The OPP encourages the public to report any suspected impaired drivers by calling 9-1-1.
