Ryan Evans, a 38-year-old security adviser for Reuters, was killed in a Russian missile strike on the Hotel Sapphire in Kramatorsk on August 25, where he was staying with a six-person team. The attack injured two other journalists, one of whom is in serious condition. Evans, a former British military officer, had been advising Reuters journalists in conflict zones since 2022. Both the Ukrainian authorities and President Volodymyr Zelenskiy condemned the strike as a deliberate attack on civilians, underscoring that targeted strikes on media representatives have become a systematic tactic in Russia's ongoing war. The Russian Defence Ministry has not commented on the incident, and the exact details of the missile's origin remain unverified. With Evans' death, he becomes the 17th media worker killed in Ukraine since the start of the full-scale invasion.
