Texas Transportation Commission Chair J. Bruce Bugg Jr. Dies at 70
J. Bruce Bugg Jr., chairman of the Texas Transportation Commission, passed away at age 70 due to complications from back surgery. Appointed by Governor Greg Abbott in 2015, Bugg served as chairman since 2017 and oversaw a $147.9 billion investment in Texas' infrastructure, leaving a lasting impact on transportation safety and mobility. Besides his public service, Bugg was a prominent San Antonio banker, leading Texas Partners Bank and its predecessors, and played a key role in founding the Tobin Center for the Performing Arts. Governor Abbott and TxDOT Executive Director Marc Williams both praised Bugg's visionary leadership and dedication, highlighting his significant contributions to Texas' infrastructure and cultural institutions. Bugg was also known for his community involvement as chairman and trustee of the Tobin Endowment and a trustee of the McNay Art Museum. He is survived by his wife, Alethea, and two sons.
