Sydney Airport Plans Largest Terminal Expansion Since Olympics

Sydney Airport is undertaking its largest terminal expansion since the 2000 Olympic Games to accommodate a projected 75% increase in passengers by 2045, expecting to serve over 70 million travelers annually. The expansion includes merging the domestic terminals T2 and T3 into a single precinct with 12 new gates for domestic and international flights, along with two additional gates at the T1 international terminal. This redevelopment aims to improve passenger experience by consolidating regional, domestic, and international services under one roof and enhancing connectivity with flexible facilities and increased aircraft bays. The project is expected to be completed by late 2027 or early 2028, with adjustments to flight paths to accommodate the upcoming Western Sydney International Airport opening in late 2026. Sydney Airport anticipates handling nearly 80% of Sydney's total air traffic by 2045, focusing on safety, accessibility, customer service, and environmental performance to maintain its competitive edge.
