New Lord Mayor Barbara Murray Sworn In Liverpool

Councillor Barbara Murray is set to be sworn in as Liverpool's new Lord Mayor at a Town Hall ceremony on May 14. Serving the Yew Tree ward since 2007, Murray has a diverse background including roles as a civil servant, teacher, and community development worker. She has been recognized for her governance work, notably as School Governor of the Year in 2008 and a National Leader of Governance since 2016. Murray is actively involved in community projects such as Britain in Bloom and has a passion for poetry, having co-founded a local poets society. Her chosen charity as Lord Mayor is the Liverpool Education Grants Charitable Trust, which supports educational and cultural activities for young people, and she plans to focus on lifelong learning and employability initiatives. Her consort will be her son Richard, with her daughters Ruth and Elizabeth sharing the Lady Mayoress role, while Cllr William Shortall will serve as deputy Lord Mayor.
