Laika's Wildwood Confirms Cast, Screenplay, 2026 Release
Laika's Wildwood is a stop‑motion adaptation of Colin Meloy’s dark‑fantasy books (illustrated by Carson Ellis), directed by Travis Knight with a screenplay by Chris Butler and has been in production since 2021 with a planned 2026 release. The film follows Portland teen Prue McKeel (voiced by Peyton Elizabeth Lee) and her classmate Curtis (voiced by Jacob Tremblay) as they enter the Impassable Wilderness to rescue Prue’s baby brother Mac, who was abducted by a murder of crows. The voice cast includes Peyton Elizabeth Lee, Jacob Tremblay, Angela Bassett (as the General), Carey Mulligan, Mahershala Ali, Awkwafina, Jake Johnson, Charlie Day and Amandla Stenberg, among others. Laika is billing Wildwood as its most ambitious project, featuring roughly 136 locations, 231 practical puppets and 54 hero characters, and highlights extensive practical craftsmanship — the General was built as two specialized puppets with about 9,000 individually hand‑installed feathers. New teasers and featurettes spotlight the film’s concept art, intricate puppetry and Laika’s effort to capture naturalistic animal movement, which the studio describes as one of its hardest and most technically daring undertakings.
