Yandie Martinez Arrested for Haverstraw Homicide

Yandie Martinez, an 18-year-old suspect in the July 1 fatal shooting of Christian Alvarado in Haverstraw, was apprehended on July 27 at an Airbnb in Piedmont, South Carolina. Martinez was tracked through his social media activity, which allowed police to pinpoint his location. Multiple law enforcement agencies, including the Greenville County Sheriff's Office and the FBI, collaborated in the capture. Alvarado, who was shot multiple times, was found near a crashed vehicle and later pronounced dead at the hospital. Despite efforts by family and friends to have Martinez surrender, he was on the run until his arrest. He faces charges including second-degree murder and unlawful flight to avoid prosecution and will be extradited to New York.
