Boy'starved to death'

Gavin Peterson, a 12-year-old boy from Utah, was found dead on July 9 after suffering what police describe as years of severe abuse and malnutrition. Emergency responders discovered him unresponsive on the bathroom floor, and despite resuscitation attempts, he was pronounced dead at the hospital. His father Shane, stepmother Nichole Scott, and older brother Tyler Peterson have been arrested, facing charges related to child abuse homicide and aggravated child abuse. Evidence, including surveillance footage and text messages, revealed that Gavin was allegedly fed only a piece of bread with mustard and one-third of a cup of water while being denied bathroom access. Medical examinations indicated extreme malnutrition, with his internal organs having shut down completely. The community has expressed shock and grief, holding vigils and launching fundraising efforts for Gavin's funeral.
