Leeds Taxi Driver Convicted of Raping Woman After Following Her Home

Daniel Hayelom, a 36-year-old taxi driver, has been found guilty of raping a woman in Leeds after following her home from a party on October 22, 2023. The attack occurred shortly after 6 AM when Hayelom approached the victim in an alleyway after driving past her in his licensed vehicle. He was arrested the same day after DNA evidence linked him to the crime. Detective Chief Inspector James Entwistle highlighted that Hayelom preyed on the victim, whom he perceived as vulnerable, and expressed commendation for her bravery throughout the investigation. The court heard that the victim was intoxicated and unable to consent to any sexual activity. Hayelom is scheduled to be sentenced on May 2, following his conviction at Leeds Crown Court.
