Apple TV+ Reveals Chief of War Production Details

Apple TV+ will premiere 'Chief of War,' a nine-episode historical drama starring, co-created, and executive produced by Jason Momoa, on August 1, 2025. The series follows the unification of the Hawaiian Islands in the late 18th century from an indigenous perspective, with Momoa portraying the legendary warrior Ka‘iana. It is a personal project for Momoa and co-creator Thomas Pa‘a Sibbett, both of Native Hawaiian heritage, and features a predominantly Polynesian cast. The production is backed by Fifth Season and Chernin Entertainment, with Doug Jung serving as showrunner. Justin Chon directs the first two episodes, and Momoa directs the finale, with a score composed by Hans Zimmer and James Everingham. Episodes will release weekly through September 19, and the series aims for cultural authenticity and high production values.
