20-Foot Rockslide Blocks Chuckanut Drive in Skagit County

A massive rockslide, estimated to be over 20 feet high with large boulders and debris, has completely blocked both directions of State Route 11 (Chuckanut Drive) near Blanchard Road, just south of the Skagit County border. The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT), along with State Patrol and maintenance crews, are on-site working to clear the roadway, but due to the size of the slide, there is no estimated time for reopening and the closure is expected to last for an extended period. Drivers are being advised to seek alternate routes as all lanes remain closed. The rockslide did not reach the nearby train tracks along Samish Bay and no injuries have been reported.
