Inquest reveals details of boy's death from falling mirror in Colchester store

Five-year-old Freddie Farrow tragically died after a large mirror fell on him at the Fenwick department store in Colchester, England, on July 27, 2021. An inquest revealed that Freddie was looking at his reflection when he touched the mirror, which was estimated to weigh between 132 and 176 pounds and stood 8 feet 6 inches tall. Temporary Detective Chief Inspector Michael Pannell noted that the mirror was likely near its balance point and that a broken wooden bracket may have caused it to become freestanding. Following the incident, Freddie was transported to a hospital but succumbed to his injuries on August 2, 2021. His mother described him as a joyful child, and the inquest, which is expected to last several days, seeks to determine if the accident could have been prevented. The investigation also considers the role of the German company that installed the mirror.
