Hong Kong Sailor Nicholas Halliday Wins First Gold at 15th National Games
Nicholas Bezy Halliday secured Hong Kong's first gold medal at the 15th National Games of the People's Republic of China, held in the co-hosted cities of Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao. Competing in the men's ILCA 7 sailing category, Halliday maintained a leading position throughout and clinched the victory with a net score of 33 points, finishing ahead of his closest competitor by seven points. Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism Rosanna Law praised Halliday's strength, perseverance, and persistence, highlighting the symbolic importance of this achievement as Hong Kong hosts the national sporting event for the first time. Halliday's accomplishment has brought pride to the Hong Kong community and inspired hopes for continued strong performances from the city's delegation in other events. As recognition, Halliday will receive HK$750,000 under the Jockey Club Athlete Incentive Awards Scheme. This gold medal victory marks a significant milestone for Hong Kong's presence in the National Games and reflects the city's growing prominence in competitive sailing.
