Hamilton County Plans Vote Center Shift for 2026 Elections
Hamilton County is considering a significant change to its election process by transitioning from a traditional precinct-based voting system to a countywide vote center model. Under the proposed plan, voters would be able to cast their ballots at any of 52 vote centers across the county, instead of being restricted to a single assigned precinct. This move aims to increase voter flexibility and access while potentially reducing the rising costs associated with managing numerous precincts amid rapid county growth. A public meeting will be held on August 13 at the Hamilton County Commissioner’s Courtroom to discuss the proposal, followed by a 30-day period for residents to submit written feedback. If approved by the Election Board, the new vote center system would be implemented starting with the May 2026 primary election. This model has already been adopted by 67 of Indiana’s 92 counties, signaling a broader shift towards more accessible and cost-effective voting methods.
