Polly Holliday, 'Alice' Actress, Dies Age 88
Polly Holliday, best known for her role as the gum-chewing waitress Flo on the CBS sitcom "Alice," passed away at her Manhattan home at the age of 88. She won two Golden Globe Awards and received multiple Emmy nominations for her portrayal, which popularized the catchphrase "Kiss my grits!" Holliday also starred in the spinoff "Flo" and was recognized for her memorable role as Mrs. Deagle in the 1984 film "Gremlins," earning a Saturn Award. A respected stage actress, she was nominated for a Tony Award for her performance in a 1990 revival of "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof." Beginning her career in theater, she eventually moved to television and film, with notable appearances in "Home Improvement," "Mrs. Doubtfire," and "The Parent Trap." Holliday was the last surviving principal cast member of "Alice."
