Severe Flooding in Central Europe Causes Deaths

Severe flooding across central and eastern Europe, driven by Storm Boris, has resulted in at least seven fatalities and significant evacuations. A firefighter in Austria and a man in Poland were among the dead, with five deaths reported in Romania. Thousands have been forced to evacuate in the Czech Republic, where authorities declared disaster zones and warned of rising river levels and continued heavy rainfall. In Opava, approximately 10,000 out of 56,000 residents were asked to seek higher ground amid worsening conditions. Meteorologists caution that the situation may deteriorate further, with additional rainfall forecasted. Romanian President Klaus Iohannis emphasized the need to bolster preparedness for extreme weather events linked to climate change.
