India's Internet Users to Surpass 900 Million

India's internet user base is projected to exceed 900 million by 2025, fueled by a substantial rise in the use of Indic languages for digital content, according to a report by the Internet and Mobile Association of India (IAMAI) and Kantar. As of 2024, there were 886 million active internet users, with rural areas contributing significantly, accounting for 55% of total users. The report highlights that 98% of internet users engage with content in regional languages, with Tamil, Telugu, and Malayalam being the most prevalent. Furthermore, AI has become increasingly important, with 90% of users interacting with AI-enabled applications. The digital gender gap is also narrowing, with women comprising 47% of internet users, marking an increase in female participation, especially in rural areas. Overall, rural India is leading in various online activities, including OTT streaming and social media usage, while urban users are adopting non-traditional devices more rapidly.
