Focus Features Casts Esmé Creed-Miles as Marianne in Sense and Sensibility
Focus Features and Working Title Films have cast Esmé Creed-Miles as Marianne Dashwood in the new adaptation of Jane Austen's classic novel Sense and Sensibility, joining Daisy Edgar-Jones who will portray her older sister Elinor. The film is directed by BAFTA nominee Georgia Oakley, with a script written by bestselling author Diana Reid, and produced by Tim Bevan, Eric Fellner, India Flint, and Jo Wallett. This adaptation follows the story of the Dashwood sisters as they navigate love, loss, and financial uncertainty in 18th century England, a narrative first published anonymously in 1811 that established Austen's literary prominence. The role of Marianne Dashwood was famously played by Kate Winslet in Ang Lee's 1995 film version, while Edgar-Jones and Creed-Miles bring fresh interpretations to the story. Focus Features has a history of successful Austen adaptations, including the 2005 Pride & Prejudice and the 2020 Emma, reflecting their continued investment in the author's works. The release date and remaining cast members have yet to be announced.
