Active-Shooter Alert at Augusta Mall; One Wounded, Two Arrested

The Richmond County Sheriff's Office issued an active-shooter alert after shots were fired at Augusta Mall in Augusta, Ga., shortly after 1 p.m. Tuesday, and officials confirmed one person was wounded. Deputies said two people were taken into custody while they continued to clear the mall store-by-store and were searching for an additional suspect who may still be at large. Bystanders performed CPR on the victim and emergency crews brought out multiple stretchers as the mall was evacuated, entrances were blocked and vehicles and stores were checked. Authorities closed the mall, urged the public to avoid the area and asked anyone with information to contact the Richmond County Sheriff's Office. The shooting follows a string of previous shootings and weapons-related incidents at Augusta Mall in recent years, heightening local concern about repeated violence at the shopping center.
