Temwa Chawinga Named 2024 NWSL MVP
Temwa Chawinga of the Kansas City Current was named the 2024 NWSL Most Valuable Player, marking a historic achievement as the first player in franchise history to receive the honor. Chawinga set a new league record by scoring 20 goals in a single season, surpassing the previous record of 18 held by Sam Kerr, and she also became the first player to score against every NWSL team in a season. Her remarkable performance included scoring in eight consecutive games and contributing to the team's record 57 goals this season. Chawinga, who joined the Current from China's pro league, also won the NWSL Golden Boot and was nominated for the league's Best XI. Described as an incredible player and teammate by her team, Chawinga's impact was significant both on and off the field. She will receive her MVP award during the pre-championship fan fest, with the NWSL Championship Game set to feature the Washington Spirit against the Orlando Pride.
