EasyJet Expands at Southend Airport, Adds 1,200 Jobs

EasyJet has launched a new base at London Southend Airport, featuring 122 weekly flights to 20 destinations, marking a significant expansion after ceasing operations there in 2020 due to the pandemic. This move introduces new routes across Europe and North Africa, including destinations like Pisa, Marrakech, and Tenerife, while creating 1,200 jobs and permanently stationing three A320neo aircraft at the airport. Along with the operational expansion, EasyJet introduced a unique series of ice cream flavors at the airport to celebrate the new base, with varieties inspired by the destinations served, such as 'Cacio e Pepe' and 'Sangria and Chocolate'. The new base and its offerings support local employment and provide travelers with greater connectivity and travel options. The development follows previous financial challenges and a partial sale of the airport's owner to a US firm. EasyJet's strategic expansion aims to capitalize on the increased demand for travel from the East London and Essex regions.
