Tata Power has commenced production of solar cells at India's largest single-location facility in Tirunelveli, Tamil Nadu, with a current capacity of 2 GW and plans to expand to 4 GW within months. This initiative by TP Solar Ltd, a subsidiary of Tata Power Renewable Energy Ltd, comes as a boost to domestic solar component manufacturing, aiming to meet increasing demand for high-quality, locally-produced solar cells and modules. The facility has already produced 1,250 MW of solar modules since its commissioning in October 2023, with a total investment of nearly Rs 4,300 crore. CEO Praveer Sinha emphasized that this development supports India's clean energy goals and aims for self-sufficiency in the solar value chain. The plant is equipped with advanced technology to ensure high-efficiency production and is set to enhance Tata Power's supply chain for ongoing projects. Tata Power's shares experienced slight fluctuations but have seen significant growth over the past year.
