Two killed in shooting outside Cabarrus DSS, suspect dead

On Wednesday morning, a shooting outside the Cabarrus County Department of Social Services in Kannapolis resulted in the deaths of two individuals, with the suspect later committing suicide. The incident occurred around 8:30 a.m. in the parking lot, prompting a swift police response and a chase that ended approximately 20 miles away when the suspect shot himself. Authorities believe the situation was domestic in nature, and the victims were known to the shooter, although their identities have not yet been released. Fortunately, no employees from the DSS were harmed during the incident, and the department's services remain available at a different location. Investigators are still looking into the circumstances leading up to the shooting. The DSS office on South Cannon Boulevard was closed for the day following the incident.
