Pakistan has launched 'SheDrives', a ride-sharing service exclusively for women and transgender individuals, in Lahore, aiming to provide safe transportation and empower the marginalized community. CEO Ammaz Farooqi emphasized the service's focus on safety, featuring a help button that alerts authorities if a passenger feels threatened. This initiative is part of broader efforts to support the transgender community, including plans for Pakistan's first gender guardian school to educate and skill transgender individuals. With an estimated 500,000 transgender people in Pakistan, many of whom face severe discrimination and harassment, 'SheDrives' seeks to improve their mobility and economic opportunities. National Assembly member Shaista Pervaiz Malik endorsed the service, stating it could enhance travel safety and access to education and employment for women and transgender persons. This launch follows other supportive measures for the transgender community in Pakistan, such as a dedicated hotline and government-run schools.
