Bordeaux relegated
FC Girondins de Bordeaux, once a prominent figure in French football, has accepted relegation to the National 1 Championship, the third tier of French football, following financial difficulties and the withdrawal of a potential takeover by Liverpool's owners, Fenway Sports Group (FSG). After failing to secure a €40 million investment needed to stabilize its finances, the club announced on July 23 that it would withdraw its appeal against a decision by the National Management Control Directorate (DNCG) made on July 9. Bordeaux's president, Gérard Lopez, confirmed that no new developments prompted the appeal's withdrawal. The club has faced a drastic decline since falling into administration in 2021 and suffering its first relegation in over three decades. They are now tasked with presenting a revised financial budget to the DNCG to secure their place in the upcoming season. Bordeaux, champions of Ligue 1 six times, has not played in the third division since professionalizing in the 1930s.
