Elon Musk files lawsuit against GARM

The World Federation of Advertisers (WFA) has announced the disbandment of the Global Alliance for Responsible Media (GARM) following an antitrust lawsuit filed by Elon Musk's social media platform, X. The lawsuit accuses GARM of coordinating an illegal advertising boycott that allegedly cost X billions in revenue, targeting conservative outlets and restricting ads to certain news platforms. WFA CEO Stephen Loerke stated that the decision to shut down GARM was difficult due to limited resources but emphasized their commitment to contest the lawsuit in court. The lawsuit names several major corporations, including Unilever and CVS, as defendants and claims that GARM's actions were intended to limit consumer choices and demonetize certain content creators. X’s CEO Linda Yaccarino highlighted the need for fair competition in advertising, asserting that no group should control what gets monetized. Critics of GARM have accused it of political bias and attempting to suppress conservative media through its advertising strategies.
