Douglas Clifton Brown Convicted of Attempted Murder

Douglas Clifton Brown, cousin of Conservative MP Geoffrey Clifton-Brown, has been convicted of attempted murder after attacking his former partner, Camilla Welby, near his family estate in Norfolk. The incident occurred on August 12, 2023, after a night of drinking, when Clifton Brown allegedly drove Welby to a disused well and attempted to drag her into it following a violent argument. Prosecutors described the assault as 'vicious,' with Clifton Brown delivering numerous strikes to Welby, who ultimately fought back by choking him with her scarf. Welby sustained severe injuries, including a suspected fractured nose and extensive bruising. While Clifton Brown denied the charge, he had already admitted to causing grievous bodily harm and making threats to kill.
