Academy Elects 2025-26 Board Including Oscar-Nominee Carter Burwell

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has announced its newly elected 2025-2026 Board of Governors, with incumbents dominating the elections by securing 10 re-elected positions and three past governors returning after a hiatus. Notable returning governors include Marlee Matlin (Actors), Jason Reitman (Directors), and Jason Blum (Producers), while first-time governors such as Carter Burwell, a three-time Oscar-nominated composer, Peter Kujawski, Gigi Williams, and Andrew Roberts joined the board. Several governors, including Ruth E. Carter and Eric Roth, left due to term limits, with former governors like Isis Mussenden and Larry Karaszewski returning to fill those vacancies. The Academy's 19 branches are mostly represented by three governors each, except for Animation, Short Films, and Production & Technology branches, which have fewer representatives. Additionally, Jason Reitman was also elected to the Board of Trustees overseeing the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures, alongside new trustees Tom Dolby, Cindy Huang, Hiro Matsuoka, and Teddy Schwarzman.
