Recording Academy Invites Nearly 3,600 Diverse Music Professionals
The Recording Academy has extended invitations to nearly 3,600 music professionals for membership, with about 2,600 offered voting rights, reflecting a continued effort to diversify and refresh its electorate. This 2025 class includes 49% women, 56% people of color, and 60% under the age of 40, featuring notable invitees such as Addison Rae, Grupo Firme, Joey Bada$$, KATSEYE, Mariah The Scientist, and Nikki Glaser. CEO Harvey Mason Jr. emphasized that membership not only allows voting on Grammy nominations and awards but also provides access to career development, mentorship, and participation in various Academy initiatives, including advocacy and diversity programs. The Academy aims to maintain a voting body of relevant and active music creators, moving away from members no longer engaged in the industry. Invited members must formally accept by July 31 to participate in the Grammy Awards entry process and become full members. This move continues the Academy's broader mission of supporting music creators and shaping the future of music with a more inclusive and dynamic membership base.
