James Darren, Former Teen Idol, Dies at 88

James Darren, the teen idol best known for his role as Moondoggie in the 'Gidget' films, died at 88 at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. Darren's son, Jim Moret, confirmed that his father passed away peacefully in his sleep while being treated for heart issues and was too weak to undergo an aortic valve replacement. Besides 'Gidget,' Darren was noted for his roles in 'T.J. Hooker' and 'Star Trek: Deep Space Nine,' and he also had a successful singing career, with hits like 'Goodbye Cruel World.' He directed numerous TV shows, including 'Melrose Place' and 'Beverly Hills 90210.' Darren is survived by his wife, three sons, and five grandchildren.
