Rockets Move Deadline for VanVleet's Option Decision
The Houston Rockets and Fred VanVleet have officially agreed to move the decision deadline for his $44.9 million team option for the 2025-26 season to June 29, allowing additional time to explore contract options. VanVleet, who joined Houston on a three-year, $128.5 million contract in 2023, played a key role in leading the team to its first playoff appearance since 2020, finishing the season with a 52-30 record. Although his regular-season scoring dipped to 14.1 points per game, VanVleet excelled in the postseason, averaging 18.7 points and shooting 43.5% from three in a tight seven-game series against Golden State. The Rockets see the decision on VanVleet's option as pivotal to their offseason strategy as they look to build on success with their young core. The new deadline provides more time for both sides to weigh the financial and roster implications. Both parties remain open to negotiating a longer-term agreement.
