Portland Broadway Bridge Closes Six Months for Deck Replacement

Portland's Broadway Bridge will close to all vehicle traffic and the Portland Streetcar starting October 13, 2025, for six months to allow crews to replace the movable bridge deck as part of the Broadway Bridge Lift Deck Replacement Project. The south sidewalk will remain open for pedestrians, cyclists, and those using mobility aids for most of the closure. During this time, the Portland Streetcar will continue service with route modifications, including serving the east side via the Tilikum Crossing and operating A and B loop streetcars as a single line through downtown and the central east side, though the stop at N.W. 9th and Lovejoy will be closed. The project involves removing small sections of the bridge deck one at a time to keep the movable sections balanced and operable for river traffic, while also installing new streetcar tracks. The closure will last through April 11, 2026, and commuters are advised to plan alternative routes. This major infrastructure work aims to maintain the bridge's functionality and safety for years to come.
