Walmart Plans Hundreds of Job Cuts, Office Closure

Walmart is cutting hundreds of jobs and closing one of its North Carolina offices as part of a strategy to consolidate its corporate operations by relocating employees to its main hubs in Bentonville, Arkansas, and Sunnyvale, California. Chief People Officer Donna Morris detailed in an internal memo that employees in Hoboken, New Jersey, and other smaller offices are being asked to move to these central locations. This decision aligns with a broader initiative launched in May 2024 aimed at streamlining the company's workforce and enhancing collaboration. While Walmart has not disclosed the exact number of roles being eliminated, employees will have at least a month to decide on relocation. The company emphasizes that returning to the office will foster innovation and strengthen its corporate culture, a shift that began in February 2022. The new 350-acre campus in Bentonville, which recently opened, is part of this effort to centralize operations.
