Former EASA Director Patrick Ky Joins Vertical Aerospace Board

Vertical Aerospace has appointed Patrick Ky, former Executive Director of the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA), to its Board of Directors effective September 1, 2025, to enhance the company's regulatory expertise as it pursues certification of its VX4 electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft by 2028. Ky led EASA from 2013 to 2023, during which he developed the world’s first comprehensive regulatory framework for eVTOL aircraft (SC-VTOL), set new safety standards for major aircraft models, and oversaw the safe return to service of the 737 MAX. His appointment strengthens Vertical Aerospace’s efforts to meet the highest global aviation safety standards in partnership with the UK Civil Aviation Authority and EASA, supporting the global portability of the certification. Vertical’s VX4 is a piloted, four-passenger zero-emission eVTOL aircraft, with approximately 1,500 pre-orders from major airlines, positioning the company as a leader in sustainable aviation. Ky’s regulatory leadership is expected to be pivotal in navigating the certification process and advancing commercial deployment. His addition complements other regulatory experts on Vertical’s team, further solidifying its position in the evolving electric aviation market.
